Power Flushing

What is Power Flushing?

Power flushing is the most efficient and effective method of cleansing your complete heating system.

Signs that you might need a power flush

There are a number of signs to look for before deciding to go ahead with the power flushing process. These include

  1. Cold areas on radiators,
  2. Excessive noise from the boiler or the heating system pump,
  3. Discoloured water when you bleed the radiators and the
  4. Slow warming of the heating system.

How do you do it?

We connect a low pressure high flow rate pump to your heating system; because it is a low pressure pump it can be used on any type of wet heating system no matter what fuel is used.

Power Flush FilterWe use a water/chemical mix and force this around your system breaking down blockages and any sludge build up and return any product found back to the pump reservoir where it can be safely removed.

The clean system is then re filled and treated with a good quality central heating inhibitor to prevent any further decay.

We highly recommend fitting a system filter, this is a non mechanical device that helps to keep everything clean, it can add years to your heating system.

What if I don’t have a power flushing?

The build up of sludge in hot water central heating systems is inevitable, no matter what fuel source is used. Over a period of time this sludge can block pipes and prevent the radiators from distributing heat around your house.

Sludge can also seriously affect the efficiency of your central heating system; it will lead to higher fuel bills and can bring forward the time when you need to replace some or all of the system.

About Under Floor Heating

Under floor heating is fast becoming the most popular form of heating. In most forms it is inexpensive to install, economical to run, there is no maintenance and above all the heat distribution is total. It is invisible in so much as there are no radiators or heated towel rails showing. It can be installed under almost every floor type, wood, tile and laminate making it ideal for refurbishment projects.

This kind of heating can be applied in bathrooms, shower rooms and wet areas, conservatories and sunrooms, kitchens and utility rooms. It can be applied to tiled and stone floors and laminate and solid wood floors.

Hot Water Systems: Boiler, Termal & Single Point

In the majority of houses in this country, there are two different types of hot water system. The circulation from a boiler around the radiators is the central heating system. The water to your taps is the domestic hot water. The water to your radiators is the central heating system. Although both share some of the main components in the heating system   the water and pipe work are not mixed.

Different ways of heating the domestic hot water need to be understood in order for the home owner to identify theirs and affect any maintenance needed. It will also be necessary to asses any type of shower you may wish to install.

Which Boiler is Suitable for You?

There are 3 different types of high-efficiency condensing boiler:
  • Combination
  • Regular (traditional/conventional)
  • System

Each type delivers all the benefits of high-efficiency technology, but which one you choose will depend on several factors, including your property, your lifestyle and the professional advice of your Corgi registered Heating Advisor.

The Principles of Under Floor Heating

The principals of under floor heating (also referred to as radiant heating) remain the same whether using electric or water systems.Heated floors act as efficient low-level radiators, radiating heat energy evenly into the room, gently warming the living space through a combination of radiant energy and heat conduction. In a modern, well insulated room, where heat loss factors have been taken into consideration, underfloor heating can act as the primary heat source: in the majority of cases eliminating the need for radiators.

Choosing Your Central Heating System

Where do you start when deciding you need a central heating system or new boiler? Do you opt for gas, or oil fired equipment? Electric storage heaters? Underfloor heating? Warm air systems? Or Wet systems (ones with radiators). It is not such a minefield as you may think! Gas fired boilers with radiators is still the cheapest way of giving you heating and hot water.

The types of boilers available can be found on our boiler section but the radiators are many and various – the less expensive being the standard pressed steel type that you see in most homes today.
